CS2 Tamagotchi Chickens – Valve’s Wildest Cosmetic Update Yet

Cosmetics have always been at the heart of Counter-Strike – skins, gloves, stickers, patches, agents, music kits, and medals. But Valve is taking things to the next level with what might be the wildest cosmetic update in franchise history. Soon, players may be able to raise their own Tamagotchi-style chicken in CS2.

Rumors about pets have been circulating for over a year, but the latest animation update finally revealed new details. According to insider Gabe Follower, the “Arsenal” menu will get a dedicated auction system. Players will place bids using stars, and the highest bidder will receive a unique, untradable, and unsellable item. The first auction reward? A chicken egg.

From there, players will raise their pet through three stages:

Egg – Chick – Chicken.

Each chicken will feature unique feather patterns and ten different parameters to manage, such as hunger, sleep, and anxiety. Third-person animations are also included, meaning chickens can be displayed in the game’s lobby and possibly even inspected during matches.

Unlike skins, which can be instantly purchased on the market or obtained from cases, chickens will only be available through the auction. Participation requires stars, the currency earned from the premium battle pass (priced at $14.99 / 1390 rubles). Stars can be farmed in Premier matches or through weekly missions, with no upper limit – some players may collect 40, while others grind hundreds.

This system is designed to pull players back into CS2’s official matchmaking since stars cannot be earned on third-party platforms like Faceit or Cybershoke. The Arsenal system is clearly intended as a full replacement for Operations – the fan-favorite seasonal events in CS:GO.

Beyond Tamagotchi chickens, Valve is also working on new maps. A snowy version of Cobblestone is in development, along with a reworked Cache, after Valve purchased rights from the original creator. Code strings also suggest that custom maps may be on the horizon, similar to Dota 2’s workshop ecosystem.
