Valve introduced Trade Protection with the CS2 update in July 2025. This new feature affects skins trading, as its main purpose is to protect your skins in case of a scam or account hack.
Here we explain in detail how the Trade Protection works for CS2 skins.
This feature allows CS2 traders and players to reverse all trades made in the previous seven days.
One click, and every transaction made during this period will be reversed, and the items will return to their previous owners.
If you want to reverse trades, you need to take only two steps.
Both sides can initiate this process: sellers and buyers.
The system has been made to reverse trades in case of emergency, so it doesn’t work for individual transactions.
When you decide to reverse a specific trade, be aware that all items within the seven-day period will be sent back.
After reversing trades, your account receives a 30-day cooldown for CS2 skins trading.
As a side effect, you will be signed out of your Steam account. It’s a good idea to change your password if a scam or account hack is the reason for reversing trades.
Trade Protection applies a seven-day restriction on several aspects.
This feature is another strong reason to use reliable marketplaces for CS2 skin trading. Any of your transactions can be reversed by a seller. If you buy skins using cash outside platforms such as DMarket, these transactions can be canceled by a seller, so you lose skins and money.
That’s how Trade Protection works for CS2 skins. Please, make sure you follow our anti-scam recommendations so you can save your precious items and not need to use this feature.
